Unified Snakes
On all fours, Her ear is a seashell placed to the Earth To hear the hum of the spring sun That spools upon the northern, forest floor While the trees have yet to leaf their canopy. Her fingers strum cross the velvety backs Of Eastern Spring Beauties and Trout Lilies That have pushed up like paint brushes Wet from this canvas thaw. Her fingers are stained violet blue. She hears and sees The weightless strangling of two snakes tangling, Looped like slip knots in love making signatures, Their lavender tongues dotting the absence of ears and words, Hissing like sighs. There is no resistance to the anonymous, today. A southern wind is bound by insects. She is enchanted by the smear of the Earth’s ageless spin Beneath her belly. She reveals to me Everything And asks me, for more sounds for more words For a promise to tell no one until tomorrow truly ends, Between us.
