Searching For Calm Repose
Where in silence heaves the evening breeze A lissome heather ceaselessly droops low Through graveyard fields, I collect my tears Against the swagger of iridescent leaves, And golden, winged pinions dart on twigs Beyond my reach, this lone sojourn reels on. The frail of moon seems to besmirch eve’s gloss While in this vast expanse, quietude awaits Until throes of gloom weigh upon my bosom Pulling me down on murky weeds of clay-- Yet, above the firmament sparks As moistened hands pray for temperate rain ; My eyelids arms forehead upward turned Unto celestial orbit of auroral light; That although duskfall guides this passage-- I quiver beside the heather tree, inconsolable To slumber, to dream, to find sweet repose. ------------------ Pre-Written 5/28/2018 Submitted 6/30/2018 Best Free Verse Poem in May 2018 Sponsor: Laura Loo
