and the world has changed
I am but a name engraved upon this cold mossy stone, a hundred years have passed, a hundred years- and the world has fallen. The forests have been replaced with buildings shimmering, waterways are brown and green with pollution- and people do not drive cars, cars drive them; even some have fled for Mars, and the world has fallen. Volcanoes have buried cities and rivers have taken the land, mighty storms have swept away homes and towns- sink holes, mud slides, quakes have swallowed the Earth; and the world has fallen. But, I am but a name engraved for a hundred years my dear, the bones of a girl who lived with beauty- and the world has fallen. No footsteps fall upon my grave, not even a squirrel, no pretty birds sing me a song from above- and what is left of nature has claimed me as her own; with twining vines and thick roots, and the world has fallen. I am but a name engraved upon this cold mossy stone, a hundred years have passed, a hundred years- and the world has fallen. _________________________ May 19, 2018 Poetry/Personification/and the world has changed Copyright Protected, ID 18-1023-435-01 All Rights Reserved.
