Enjoying Retirement
My childhood was a troublesome time, My mind built walls too hard to climb. My memories from that distant past, My life made me feel like an outcast. I tried to find where I could fit in, Gave up, wondering what was my sin. Family split apart, I don't know why, Grew up wondering if it was I. Dad went away, Granddad left too, Cousins disappeared for so many years, Just left me alone with my tears. Brothers and sisters kept me apart, Loneliness seemed to fill up my heart. My wife lifted me from my pit of despair, Throughout our long marriage, always there. We took on the world and all it's travails. The Good Lord above breathed wind in our sails. Our children grew up, not needing us now, That sense of abandonment creases my brow. Has life gone full circle, has it all been in vain, Just my wife and I on our own again. No, we have not gone back, new seeds we have sown, We have made our mark, never to be alone We have brought our children into the equation, Our grandsons three, have brought us elation. So, no I have not gone back to my troublesome past. I'm here with my wife, enjoying retirement at last. © Dave Timperley May 2018
