Thoughts of An At Home Caregiver
When recovering they expect me to be around, but I cannot be all the time. Their voices cry out when I make an appearance, don’t leave me home alone, and when am I ever going to get better? I steel myself intellectually but wear down in spirit, hang in there compelled to lift their spirits by sharing my own. This time helping another forces me to examine my honor and intentions toward the people I care about. Don’t want to be lacking, because they are stark examples of how our health can change in ways unforeseen. My conscious whispers its time to demonstrate grace, not view them as a burden, and make it apparent in my actions, not just words spoken. Now wanting Respect and love to come my way, because of depth demonstrated, not being superficial, uttering promises to placate, but not intended to keep. When they were in ICU and faced the end, it so illustrated how short the time any of us have together in this physical world . So if possible, be kind and love, not in the way others expect, but in your own way, however you are able.
