Undisturbable Silence
There I sat on the riverbank with rod and reel in hand, the sun glaring hard into my eyes. Could anything be finer, I pondered, than the undisturbable silence of this moment? Then in the distance was a roaring that seemed to approach rapidly. "Hush! Hush!", I said to the motor boat. "Don't disturb the silence!" The roar seemed to intensify, as if to say, "why lady don't you hear the whistling of the mocking bird?" "Silence, huh! what silence"? "Oh but they don't disturb the silence", I replied within myself. Moments later another annoyance would plead for attention. "Hush! Hush!", I said to the lover's quarreling. "Don't disturb the silence!" Their eyes fixated upon me, sitting there on the rocks with barefeet dangling in the river's mouth, as if to say, "why crazy lady don't you hear those children yelling and splashing in the water?" "Silence, huh! what silence"? "Oh but they don't disturb the silence", I conveyed with only the nodding of my head to their direction. For an instant my bargaining paid off and time stood still while I stayed and flirted timelessly with the undisturbable silence of this moment.
