ROAD FROM PARIS (INFLUENCE ON ENGLISHPOETRY) by CYREA PONDROM
INTUITIVE IMAGES -OPENED OUT
The French symboliste poetic avant-garde school of the late 19th century had a great influence upon the development of 20th century English poetry.Pondrom , in this classic book,(isbn 978-0521131193) traces the four stages of these events from the 1890's;The Edwardian decade;Early WW1 era and 1918 through to early 1920's.She, rightly, concentrates upon the the 1908-1914 era on those poets who became the heart of the 'Imagiste' movement, a genre ,which in turn laid the foundations for 'open form' poetry that itself changed the face of English poetry ,for ever.Hence,Pondrom's very readable study, with its hindsight perspective (first published 1974) is of significance to all serious students of poetry and thus worthy of a place on the bookshelf of all poetry afficionadas.
