JACKSON POLLOCK arrested in space by MARTIN GRAY
AS IS MOMENTS in Paint
With Trimester, a line of three beats , impromptu phrasing of a conversational style ,devoid of figurative texture and symbolism Gray' s purpose is to leave all interpretation to the reader. This prose style is Gray's USP(unique selling point) in this biography ,divided into eight books ,(albeit without the usual notes and references ),all help to make this book an easy read compared to most thesis style biographies.
Book one ,in 30 stanzas ,entitled 'Pollock breaks the Ice' is the most helpful to the student of art who seeks to understand Pollock's spontaneous ' energy made visible' of his' memories arrested in space 'as the artist himself so defined his painting.
In my experience the best way to understand his abstracts is to try the technique for one's s self, then everything falls into place as you read this original biography of perhaps ' the ' most provocative artist of the 20th Century after Piccaso.
