GOLD (POIEMA) by BABARA CROOKER
THE REALITIES OF LIFE
Barbara Crooker's writing is at her best on life's personal themes. This American poet has had a number of life's problems in her family and this 'Gold' collection of over 50 of her poems brings a variety of aspects of the realities of life that can happen to us all.
Her poem ' Grief ' is perhaps the one that stands out ,and is an example of her forte in this regard.Whilst obviously from within her life experiences in particular , it has a comfort and application for us all to a degree. The last quatrain thereof is full of empathy Some say it is not helpful to dwell too long in this 'river' but Barbara's last line is so profound yet amongst this reality in this poem there are stunning images 'October sunlight wraps me in its yellow shawl'.
Crooker is particular adept at wrapping everyday events in memorable images.Truly an imagist wordsmith, there is no greater praise for a poet
