These 100 quatrains and couplets are true epigrams that Souter published in the thirties and should be distinguished from his American Cinquains ppublished in my chapbook ( Flowers of Life isbn 1903203473 ) which he also so labelled.

The epigrams are another facet to the diverse talents of this Scots poet,so well known now for his imagist cinquains,chilrens' (bairns ) poems,and his inventive and pungent creation whigmaleerie 'divertisements' and his Diary.
