OPEN POETRY IN A TRADITIONAL FORM

Apollinaire ,a poet of the 'left field ' ,very much ahead of his time,in the lack of punctuation in his verse,in effect he wrote 'open form poetry thirty years ahead of his era. However because he kept to the traditional poetic presentation of the early twentieth century of capitalising the first letter of each word of each line;his open style only becomes apparent when his poetry is recited aloud and natural breath comes into play to provide the inherent punctuation therein.
Apollinaire with his callingrams( only one example in this translation) also revived the historic concrete poetry form given it a modern twist. This Everyman compilation (isbn978-0460882118)is a helpful insight into Apollinaire, but perhaps future translations will present his poetry in a modern open form style and thereby help with its interpretation in English of this French poets giftings.
