The Weight of Words

Words can comfort, words can sting,
they shape the tone of everything.
Spoken softly, heard aloud,
they build us up or break us down.
Each phrase we speak, each thought we hear,
can draw us close or bread a fear.
Our inner voice, our daily thread,
will guide our hearts or leave em misled.
So guard the gate, be slow to trust,
let wisdom sift through noise and dust.
Shrink the pool, protect the soul,
for words can heal, or take their toll.

Read your poem out loud. Don’t be fraud to edit. Watch out for spelling (look words up). First 4 lines are good. “Bread” should be “breed,” but that sentence felt clumsy as did the following with “leave em misled.” Use a rhyming dictionary and play with what you want to say (at least as you edit). Final four is good. Hope this helps. Just an imperfect poet helping another. Hugs
