Poem
Grief is so strange it catches you by surprise One minute your laughing, the next tears in your eyes A song on the radio, the sun going down It's all so unexpected, when grief makes you frown A brief meeting with a friend, a scent in the air Can bring you to your knees, grief is not fair One minute your in disbelief, then anger comes next, Then such deep sorrow, you all know the rest You go back into disbelief, acceptance and mourn, Then the sorrow takes over your heart becomes torn It's a sick merry go round that never seems to stop With the loss of a loved one, you can never get off You wonder eventually when this ride will end You don't want to let go of the life, you must bend It seems like a minute he was a phone call away But now he can't answer that question today His mind filled with knowledge no one could surpass Seems wasted by how so quickly he passed Who will be there to fill his shoes, everyone scrambles From this heartbreaking news No plunking of keys late into the night Memories of pulling my pillow real tight As a child it drove me near out of my head But now what I'd give to hear them instead The dangling keys that pulled his pants down Would bring smiles to all, to again hear that sound The shuffling feet, with papers under his arm Three layers of clothing, an overcoat on This is how I'll remember the kisses on the head While hurrying along burning candles to the end You'd never forget a God Bless and goodbye That memory forever of you shall not die. You the oldest of seven and me at the rear I never thought in my lifetime you wouldn't be here Leading our family trying to keep peace Faith ,hope, and justice but now it must cease We shall miss you forever no words can express Lessons you taught us you did your best Six now remain a trail left behind God must have needed another great mind Protect us and guide us with Dad from above Never forget how much you were loved Your legacy established well on it's way Continuing to flourish and grow every day.
