Poem

Now, come cooler days,
   wind riding on morning haze
   and the once cloudless clear skies
   find billowy puffs in uncovered lies.
A sudden wind and rain storm
   teases the earth to resurface, be reborn
   but the chill lies low upon the ground
   a autumn fades into surreal sound.
Some leaves still cling
   as if the warmth still promised spring
   but in the more frequent shadows
   the earth seeks rest in stilled hallows.
Nature continues its calls
   to all creatures great and small
   following their internal clock
   to harvest the remaining autumn flocks.
The slow methodic mourning dove
   bids and whistles seasonal love
   adieu to its summer mates
   as winter closes autumn gates.
Now takes hold the chilly days
   where bird and mammal pray
   bonding safe and snug in winter's world
   when seasons change is unfurled.
These mornings quiet and still
   become unraveled from sea to hill
   and hide the secrets of the day
   as softer chants call life to stay.
Yielding to the breeze and warm
   each and every life can be reborn,
   as trees bend low revealing something new
   to be stirred and embroiled in the earthly stew.
It is a welcomed though chilled calm
   of rain and wind renewing bonds
   that tends to follow quickly after
   tied into earth, sky and nature's plaster.
Too soon the day will fade into noon day sun
   as sun's rise slips into a brilliant fast run
   and warmer hours rise
   of time and space in its demise.
A tighter hold makes no difference
   and with every moment spent,
   the cooler days still increase
   losing us in the search for inner peace.
Brush away the morning, brush away the day
   let slip out a word or two to pray
   with gratitude and awe
   as day slides to night and night again to morn.
