Dismantling Of A Growing Nation Back in late 70s, while I was just another fresh face in a local varsity.... Racial based politics was gaining grounds with public sympathies.... Remembered distinctly DAP, the opposition party, was gaining popularity.... Especially with the youths in mainly the urban areas across the country... Of course, the charasmatic Dr M was a much younger maverick then... He was just embarking on his lengthy 22years' journey as Prime Minister, the head of Bolehland... He set into motion the systematic demonisation of the opposition party DAP.... Branding it as being Chinese dominated and fighting only for the Chinese... Over the years the often repeated half truths, lies and accusations ..... Stick like the proverbial mud to smear DAP multiracial reputation.. . At the same time, the dominant party that was Umno, it grew in might... Because of parliamentary consensus, called the parliament whip... Whatever proposed by UMNO, the dominant party, all component parties must follow... The other component parties in BN government kept their counsel, their tails between their legs... Raising dissenting opinions only to hoodwink their ardent supporters.... That they are diligently on the look out for their continual interests.... Over time, all the component parties are reduced to yes men.... Ostensibly sidelined, and dedicated to looking after their various self interests.... The Chinese as a whole become the bogeyman for the ills of the nation... We were told, in no uncertain terms, we are the predating or immigrants... Despite the fact that we are generations after that historical fact.... The Chinese loyalty to the nation was unfairly questioned.... When selective criteria excludes non Malays into the uniformed forces.... But like the convenient punching bag in a fitness gym... Malaysian Chinese are time and again accused of loyalty only to money opportunities.... Despite our forefathers who too fought and spilt precious blood against the Malaya Communists... History is rewritten to glorify the sacrifices of one particular race and religion.... Now, poor Yap Ah Loy, who founded Kuala Lumpur, even he is now missing in action... That's what happens when history is rewritten through successive generations... Makes one wonder, how steadfast is the history for a nation seeking due recognition.... Hohoho...
