West Virginia was led by a Heisman contender,
They would never let an unranked team under their skin,
Never thought they would be forced to surrender,
They thought they had it in the bag, just another win.

The Panthers listened to LeSean McCoy,
Never expecting to beat their rival team,
West Virginia thought they would have the joy,
Have the key to reach their glorious dream.

Pittsburgh brought their very best and put up quite a fight,
The Mountaineers knew in the end, it was their championship game,
On the board, the score read thirteen to nine; Pitt had their win that night,
West Virginia, at their own field held their heads in shame,

This display was one all should have seen,
The night, dreams died at the Backyard Brawl,
Couches burned in Oakland for such a scene;
The night Pittsburgh triggered the Backyard Maul.
