The Struggle Of Being Colored" Bridge: The struggle It aint easy Tired of People Pleasing I wouldn't trade my color To be another The struggle It aint easy Tired of People Pleasing I wouldn't trade my color To be another (Verse 1) So many shades,so many colors That is how we judge one another By the skin,no longer judging from within We put out a image Without a clear finish We already are statistics Already labeled Running running No longer stable Have so many dreams And so much potential Yet we still get treated Like a rental You will never amount to anything That's what they've said Said we would end up pregnant, in jail or dead Thats sad , and makes me mad That we live in a world and we keep hiding Because this world is so divided (Chorus) The color of our skin Is how we are defined We are hated by mankind We are harshly labeled And no longer feel as if we exist Why do we have to continue to get treated like this (Verse 2) Its sad the race we run, is all we do We put our hands up And beg "please don't shoot" We are always accused We question ourselves everyday Why are We lesser than great? Why am we judged by our skin Instead of all of my characteristics i have within Why do we receive the look Of an unread book Why does when it come to us That its chaotic and alot of fuss Why cant we be equally seen Instead of living in a world so mean (Chorus) The color of our skin Is how we are defined We are hated by mankind We are harshly labeled And no longer feel as if we exist Why do we have to continue to get treated like this Hook The struggle You dont know the half We have so much to look forward to Yet they retrack our past The struggle You don't know the half We have so much to look forward to Yet they retrack the past (Chorus) The color of our skin Is how we are defined We are hated by mankind We are harshly labeled And no longer feel as if we exist Why do we have to continue to get treated like this Repeat until chorus fades Written by: Concetta Hardnett 6/24/2017
