Poem
On Memorial Day my Mom set off for the cemetery at dusk. Paying her respect to her late husband was a must. She and my brother David saw the new flowers on his grave, And she was remembering the unselfish love that her husband gave. My Mother knew that in her heart, that loss she would always grieve. Darkness was soon approaching, so they decided to leave. She pulled her van up to the cemetery gate, But saw in shock a locked gate did await. The evening was eerily quiet, and not a soul in sight. She didn’t know how they would get out, and was in a fright. Mom called my sister Barbara in tears, as the twilight was a little scary. She said, “The unthinkable has happened, I’m locked in the cemetery!” Barbara calmed her fears, and told her to stop crying. She assured Mother that all would be well, but it was indeed mystifying. Barbara made a call to the city dispatch to tell them Mother was locked inside. She said, “My 84 year old Mother is locked in the cemetery, and she’s ALIVE!” The dispatcher laughed and said, “I haven’t heard that one before.” “Tell her to pull close to the gate, and it won’t be locked anymore.” So Barbara relayed the news, and Mother made her cemetery escape. Lucky for her, that was not a pearly gate. 5/30/17
