Daily Poetry #72, April 10, 2017 Word: Laugh Somewhere, there's a child crying, Sick and coughing, slowly dying. With nonsense, continue your laughing, Blinded with no eyes, continue purifying. "What a good job you've done!" So he says, But maybe that will fade as well through the days. "It was for the better," is what you say, But I know the truth, and we're not here to play. For once, set aside the nonsense for another day, But for you, there is no other way. Take a swing, you know I can't fight back, The hits add up, the resounding "Rat-a-tack-tack." That child cries as the world leaves them behind, They are ill and afraid, for time can't rewind. I guess we are all in a revolving bind, But it wasn't my fault, I was too kind. The child lays in an empty room and cries, As everyone they know and love dies. "It's only right," just another made-up lie, I wish I would have never met you, just die. But then I wouldn't have that child, all I can do is cry, But you simply take a swing and then sigh. "I had a party and everything...just for him," Now I see it was simply riding on a whim. The child cries more when they see something new, A new colour that's bright; they don't know what to do. The bell rings out, and as if on his own cue, "Maybe one day I'll be there with you too." The child that is afraid of the dark closes his eyes, As whatever is left in the world dies. What righteousness is left in this place? What could you possibly do to fill the empty space? The checkered flag waves, for it's the end of the race, You've made a home run, you've touched every base. Opening your eyes, you finally have yourself a laugh, As you've destroyed everything on your own behalf.
