Poem
A dragon spreads it's wings, and fears. Breathing fire, his breath bodes death. While venom sprays from arrowed tail, He'll terrorise with serpents eyes, Mere mortals blinded by his stare. As shadows cast from winged flight The village folk, pray for the life Of those who will be sacrificed. As onward now the story goes. A pretty maiden without sight. Now felt the shade upon her face. Unseeing eyes, unflinching gaze Turned skyward, waiting for her fate. A sudden blast no blood or pain Then up away on beating wings, Grasped tightly by the dragon's claws. They flew into the caves of hell. There legends told of gory feasts. Where once again she saw the light, A miracle, her sight restored Saw visions of the dragon's tears, Fall gently to the cavern's floor. Where grains of sand turned into pearls. Reflections from her opaque eyes, Had slowly turned the dragon blind. Bereft of sight, he knew his plight. Beware of gifts by magic spells. The final teardrop from his eye Caught by the maiden in her palm. Mixed with her tears, then magnified. With one last breath, he altered shape. The dragon changed to paragon. As centre piece on silken cord, A pearl necklace the maiden's joy Reflects her beauty with their glow. For now the sands of time have ceased. The villagers still celebrate, Not knowing how a dragon breeds This paragon a large round pearl, In time will manifest as beast, For locked inside, a dragons seed Waits patiently, till avarice Once more as thief, will cut the cord. And there be dragons evermore. Far way beyond our wildest dreams. 4 / 8 / 2017.
