Poem
It has occurred to me that the notion of love Confuses and stirs up the sentiments, Mortifies the heart, And astonishes the mind More than it reveals to become true. The pride of a man can be melted, The direction of a woman perplexed, The hardest heart overturned and revealed to be tender. The notion of love awakens the senses, Lifts the spirit, And oftentimes crushes the soul When it refuses to satisfy. Though one may love, They may never feel their affection returned. Though two may be lost in love, They may be forever lost in their expectations Instead of being found in reality. To be a romantic is both A curse and a blessing. A curse when the heart is exposed: raw, vulnerable, And to a lover’s terror, their love is unsatisfied, A love is misunderstood and untrue. A created hole in a creative heart. A blessing, when, ever so sweetly, A love is returned, and goes to great lengths. To feel deeply is a 6th sense, an Invigorating opening of the eyes, And yet a throbbing pain to be one of the few That feel the every movement of the working world around them. How do I find my love? The soul that connects to my heart? That understands, to the full, my sentiments? Was there ever such a thing as a soulmate? Is one worth hoping for? I always thought myself a dreamer, And now, even more so. It is a hopeless, hopeful fate. You may ask, What is love? A never-ending bond?, A seal of destiny?, Putting another’s happiness selflessly Before your own? A match made in the heavens? My answer to you is, Perhaps. More so, it is the figuring out Of the journey of a lifetime, A series of experiences, And trials and errors, And a commitment rooted in companionship And honesty And truth. Love is… What every soul desires, What every sleeper Wishes would shake them to liveliness, What every torn, broken heart Needs to be mended, What everyone, In their deepest thoughts, Their heart of hearts, Desires.
