Poem
I remember when I first met her. I was the new girl in town. Alone and feeling dejected, For a friend I was casting around. I'd been welcomed at church by many, Though I knew they'd not have the time, If I stopped by for a visit, For most others were of different mind. I needed someone like minded. Someone whose thoughts mirrored mine. For though Christian I had a free spirit. What I sought was a partner in crime. At first she didn't trust me. Like me she'd been hurt a lot, But I knew the minute I saw her, We'd been cast in the self same pot. She actually asked me questions, To see just what was my game. Why in the world would I seek her out? I told her my reasons were plain. Alone I had no one to talk to. I didn't know where to begin. My marriage in tatters, my sanity gone, I was only seeking a friend. Someone that I could confide in, Who would not my secrets convey, To any and all who would listen, And sit back over tea and bray; For this is what someone had just done, That self centered female jackass, Made me look a fool so she could look cool. Well, like most gas I just let her pass. So Alice and I became fast friends, Had the same bent sense of humor. We found we were both the butt of most jokes. If we could we would start most rumors. We both loved the Lord and He understood, 'Cause good hearted, we never caused harm. Though to tell you the truth we often caused, Our husbands a bit of alarm. One night in her home she got me drunk, On her Alice Wall Bangers. Then we played "car tag" throughout the town, Never realizing we were in danger. We could have been killed in our sorry state, But we only damaged the car, That her husband had just spent a mint on; When he found out he just saw stars. We loved the Lord, we loved our pets, As much as we loved our kids. We were kindred spirits, she and I, Though most thought we'd flipped our lids. Apart from each other we're pretty low key, But together we had a blast. God broke the mold when He made we two, It was from the same die we were cast.
