Poem
Most people don’t know what it’s like to have this fire beneath your skin ? Burning and scolding. The deep dependency inside, feeds the beast that dwells within The beast is greedy; it will not stop until it takes over your mind, its mean and nasty not sweet and kind It’s sneaky and cunning and will never stop, its only desire to see you drop It chews you up and feeds all day, then spits you back out and goes away. It soon returns, but this time much worse, its hunger is greater, makes you scream and curse Once the beast has reached its goal, to beat you down and steal your soul, it thinks it has won when you lose control, its abuse of your body will take its toll No matter what you have at stake, the same mistakes you continue to make The poison it pumps into your veins flows through your body until little remains But what is this pain that you feel each day ? And why can’t you make it just go away. It’s difficult to tell, why you feel like hell The presence of the beast is very strong, what can you possibly be doing wrong ? Why can’t you steal your life right back and get your future back on track These battles can be won, and all your enemies defeated, Even in the times when you feel most depleted The secret is to never back down, keep on fighting and find new ground. Keep on going, just fight on longer. Even when you feel you are lost, just stop, take check, and come back stronger. You must never give up and never back down, try to smile, and never frown. It’s very important you remember this line. Your fear and resentment will subside over time The beast has a name, its name is addiction, and it will continue to feed with the greatest conviction. Don’t ever let it win, just work to build more strength and courage within Use this strength to keep up the fight, seek help and support and this time do it right. If you stay focused you can win this war, keep up the fight until the beast dwells no more Once the beast has been forced out, you must keep your mind focused and don’t start to doubt If he tries to get back in, remember the suffering you felt within Remember how he made you feel, and don’t forget he is very real. His voice will grow weaker within your head; all that he says has already been said Be strong, keep it simple, you will be just fine. Take one step forward, one day at a time. You must do all you can to help sobriety remain, you may never get this chance again
