Poem

“When you reap the harvest of your land, moreover, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field, nor gather the gleaning of your harvest; you are to leave them for the needy and alien…”
(Leviticus 23:22)

Because of YOUR blessing we stand on this piece of land
YOU allotted to us; we cultivated this land and sow the seeds
because YOU brought us the season of spring,

during long, long summer days 
YOU gave us the glaring sun and timely rains   
to make our crops grow, though we tended with sweat,
I know crops won’t grow without YOUR boundless love and care;

the crops grew up healthy and strong fed by the sun
the crops grown tall drinking of plenty of overflowing rain, 
and now, rolling through the field as a big sea of golden waves;

O my LORD 
it is the season of abundance, 
it is the time of, because of YOUR grace, 
the fruition of our sweat and toil, the manifestation 
of YOUR everlasting love unto us, our hand therefore,
be not of the tightfisted one’s 
 
let us not harvest from those who gather the gleanings 
but leave them in the field where we passed through,  
thereby the needy can fill their empty basket; 
let us not pluck off all the fruits on the tree
but leave some of them thereby some weary wayfarer to fill 
his empty stomach and pack remaining fruits in his knapsack
and set off again  

because of YOUR blessing 
now, I stored grains and goods in the barn to the ceiling; 
however, don’t turn me arrogant from material richness 
nor behave insolently against my neighbors, but fearing  
GOD and standing as a burning candle that bashfully face YOU 
to manifest and glorify YOU the FATHER ALMIGHTY.
