Poem
Ted was walking down the sidewalk headed to a friends house. He was smiling as he thought about how much fun they were going to have watching the first football game of the year... He never made it. Out of the blue a shot was fired. Ted lay dead there on the sidewalk... half a block from his friends house. A car raced away. The Anderson family were seated at their local church. Service had just started. The Anderson's children, ages 10, 8, and 5 were seated between their parent's. The church was full, as everyone quieted down so they could hear the minister speak. The minister never finished his sermon on forgiveness. A lone man, who was sitting in the back row stood and opened fire on the congregation...shooting the minister first. As people screamed and scattered, the gunman began randomly shooting. The Anderson family had been sitting right in front of him. As the parents clutched their children...trying to get away...the gunman shot all 5 of them. He then shot an elderly couple...then 2 teens, as they tried to run down the isle. He then shot and killed himself. Why???? It was Friday night at a local movie threater. There was a new comedy movie playing. As people got in line to buy their popcorn and other goodies, everyone was busy talking and laughing, as others went ahead to find their seats. Jean and her husband Bob sat in the middle row, while their 2 teens hurried down front to get a close up seat. As the movie started, they settled down in their seats as they began eating their popcorn...laughing about something that had happened at school that day. The lights were dim, as you heard laughter throughout. Suddenly...a young male stood up in front...opening fire on the movie goers. At first no one understood what was happening. As people began to scream, the lights were turned back on. As people raced toward the exits...Jean and Bob watched in horror as their 2 sons were gunned down. Many others were killed or wounded before the gunman turned the gun on himself. Spilled drinks and snacks were scattered everywhere...as were the wounded and dead. There are many other similar incidents playing out all over the world. What's the matter with the human race? Why have so many become so cold that they have no respect for themselves or any other living thing? Why do they feel they have the right to kill and injure innocent people or animals just because of their own anger or troubles? Isn't it enough we're killing our planet? If things don't change...no matter who or where you are...we will all sink together on the ship...Mother Earth. P.R.Deremer
