Interpretation: Lying beside my cold, stale ashes I feel the dawn preparing her day With little, hushed peaceful gestures Then upon opening my eyes, I greet her crimson smile Slowly peering over the horizon, whilst over I turn And say good morn to the stars out late When at last I wake, the dawn has merged With a morning sun, prying midst trunks of the tall Where I stand like a sprig amongst giants And raise my chin to the sun’s bright, and Absorb nature’s verve with solitude as thy neighbour I listen to the light bounce through canopies, watch birds go about their busy lives And now, smell the silent grey threat of rain A prelude to strong winds roaring through the canopy Stripping leaves that have long since lost their youth Where they spiral to the floor, filling with rain and Become useful once more to the parched My spot amongst the forest is now sodden, for No longer do I stand blinking at the rain soaked floor But sway in tune to Mother Nature's song Dancing to her rhythm, singing her song Until the night's chill resurrects my ashes once more Poem: Shadow Dance I listen to my shadow as it wakes Contemplating its solitude, hearing how peacefully it Settles over dawn’s breath, and how it looks upon Last night’s fire, but a stain upon the earth I listen to the sky cleft open the dawn Watch as she tears a strip from her canvas taught with night’s frost, Allowing the last of the stars to slip away, unseen Whilst my shadow now watches sleep, invade my breath again I now listen as dawn unfolds about my camp Watch as the shadows slyly acquaint themselves and How impishly they mingle with the tall trees Until sunlight chases them all away I listen to my shadow slide bashfully beneath me Loneliness dissolving in birdsong and the Growing pains of the forest, as Clouds now collect to frighten the sky grey I listen to the wind chase itself through the trees Moaning in search of those shadows, as Tired leaves tumble amongst cries of the forest, where Tears gather into cups of the fallen I listen to my shadow slurp greedily from the forest floor Gathering the tears of the fallen, cradling them Like his own flesh and blood, until the solitude at dusk Basks with the night’s fire making their shadows Dance with the forest once again For The Contest: "The I'Lyezette" Sponsored By FJ Thomas 25 July 2015
