Poem
By Laura Dee Battle May 10, 2015 My legs are growing heavy from all the miles behind Perpetually erasing time, like a memory in rewind A muse I used to hold has left me in the cold Now I'm left without a way to grab a hold Inspiring as say, the broken slave away To wither and die; the price I gladly paid No bandage for the scars that line my troubled mind I hope you find your way cause I am flying blind What will I become when all is said and done? A cautionary tale of a daughter born a son? At best I could be the face of a charity If you could let me be then we could truly see This cannot be the end of a bittersweet tale It sure isn't sad when I never have failed Teetering on the edge of the perpetual last call Perhaps I've missed the point of living through it all So I write these words; the ones you never knew The awful price I've paid to pass this on to you I'll never be a martyr or a rebel with a cause I'm just a lonely, drifting girl dancing for applause So maybe this will be the calm before the storm Redeeming every tear I used to keep me warm So if you are a broken soul without a way to go And if you're just as scared as me to let your queerness show Then hold my hand and stand with me in front of endless raging seas And say with me our battle cry so we can finally be free: ~~~~~ Be bold Be bright Be queer if you are gay And we'll see everything Forever we will simply be
