IF THE CREEK DON’T RISE COME FRIDAY NIGHT, WE’LL HAVE ONE HELLOFA TIME. HAVE A LITTLE GIN AND BEER TO GO AROUND, AND MAYBE SOME ANNIE GREENSPRINGS WINE. GET THE HICKORY WOOD TO BURNING REAL SLOW, SO THE EMBERS WILL BE FINE. AND IF THE CREEK DON’T RISE COME FRIDAY NIGHT, WE’LL HAVE A HELLOFA TIME. BEEN WORKING ON THIS JOB NIGH 35 YEARS, SOMETIMES THE WEEKENDS ARE DOOMBED. BY THE RAIN DRINCHED DAYS OF SUMMER, AS THE WATERS RISE AND BEGIN TO SWOMB. I’VE SEEN MANY A SINK BACK UP WITH SLIME, AS THE WATERS BEGIN TO RISE. AND THE WEEKEND IS TERROR AND I SEE IT COMING, RIGHT BEFORE MY TEAR FILLED EYES. BUT IF THE CREEK DON’T RISE COME FRIDAY NIGHT, AND THE WATERS ROLL GENTLY LIKE A RHYME. I’LL BE GATHERING MY GEAR AND HEADING FOR HOME, AND WE’LL HAVE A HELLOFA TIME. I’LL DIG ME A HOLE OUT IN THE YARD, PUT THE WHITE COALS RIGHT IN. WRAP THE PIG IN BURLAP, THEN COVER THE HOLE, AND COOK IT TILL SATURDAY AROUND TEN. CHECK THE GROCERY LIST TO MAKE SURE IT’S RIGHT, AND NESTLE THE KEGS IN ICE OH SO FINE. CAUSE IF THE CREEK DON’T RISE COME FRIDAY NIGHT, WE’LL HAVE A HELLOFA TIME. TUNE THE STATION TO THE GRAND OLE OPRY, LISTEN TO THE LEGENDS OF GOLD. AS THEY SING OUT THEIR SONGS WITH ALL THEIR HEARTS, AND SING IT FROM DOWN IN THEIR SOUL. COME SATURDAY NIGHT, IF ALL GO RIGHT, THE GANG WILL START POURING IN. BRINGING THEIR COOLERS ON BACK OF THEIR TRUCKS, TO MISS IT WOULD BE A GREAT SIN. THERE’S SALLY AND JOE AND KATHRENE AND BILL, BARBARA IS SHOWING UP ALONE. BUT WHEN SHE STARTS TO LEAVE IN THE WEE HOURS OF DAWN, SHE WON’T BE LEAVING ALONE. WE’LL PICK FROM THE PIG, DRINK FROM THE KEG, AND PARTY TILL WE CAN’T STAY AWAKE. AND DIE FOR AWHILE AND MOAN AND GROAN, AS ALL OUR HEADS START TO ACHE. BUT IF THE CREEK DON’T RISE COME FRIDAY NIGHT, AND THE SINKS DON’T FILL UP WITH SLIME. I’LL GATHER MY GEAR AND HEAD FOR THE HILLS, AND WE’LL HAVE ONE HELLOFA TIME.
