Poem
Your roomate had called me late that night, And told me that you were not feeling right, I hopped in my car and made my way, Not telling you I'd be there the next day, You then called me during my drive, And asked me when I would arrive, how'd you know I was going to come, You told me because you knew your son, You said that the paramedics had come and gone, And that they told you there wasn't much wrong, So we cracked a few jokes as we always do, You gave me your love I said I love you too, How could I know that would be the last, Time that we talked the night that you passed, I would have never hung up the phone, Knowing that you would leave all alone. I would have drove faster not stopped to rest, Would have held your hand told you your the best. The minister asked me to put pen to pad, And write a few stories about my dad, So I began writing of things in past years, But the pen wouldn't work paper covered with tears, So I just told him a bit about you, And he told me that that would do, We then had your service now that was a sight, From the rich to the homeless you must of done right, To have such a variation of freinds, Who stood beside you right to the end, I prayed, then I cried then I started to laugh, As people told stories on your behalf, So then we went out to celebrate your life, Myself, your daughter, her man and my wife. As I now type this poem, some time has gone by, And i pause, and take time to dab my teary eyes. Cause you touched so many in your 64 years, And the screen looks so hazy, eyes filling with tears, In your life you gave me so much joy, Love you Dad- rest in peace doughboy.
