Poem

It was the most interesting kind of love
like none any had ever seen
we were like a rocket ship to the sun

When we made love we laughed instead of cry
they all said bless his heart he will never keep up with you
and I just smiled as I watched the south rise over and over again

He wasn't much of a romantic, thank God
but if I did things just right in those fields late at night
he always smiled that evil grin, and picked me dandelions 

Now you may think those are not a flower, 
but I am here to tell you
they were a trip for sure, 
as he held it up saying make a wish, and blow
after that he just hung a Confederate flag for good, sure to show

Not for hate or racial disgrace, 
I am half Cherokee, you need to know
I kept his secret and kept it damn good,
him and his dandelion romance
even though he had hundreds dead in the back of his truck

What can I say, he gave me more than a dozen of them
don't say you love me, just scream out my name passionately
while we dance under the moon, in a field with a dandelion in my teeth

I could never get tired of them,  make a wish, 
and blow he would always say
and with sheer joy, looking into his eyes, I would
yeah he brought me dandelions, who needs roses, 
when those are so much fun
