That spot up on the ceiling
Circles in a Jack Daniels inspired dance
That warm wetness I am feeling
Indicates I wet my pants
The digital numbers on the clock
Are too blurry for me to see
I get intoxicated every night
Ever since my wife left me

She didn’t leave me for another man
Or to set out on her own
Her cloths still hang in the bedroom closet
Her voice answers the machine on the phone
The bartender now knows my name
Ever since that fretful night
When the last time she closed her eyes
And gave up the cancerous fight

She was always the strong one
That the kids could rely on
If one of us was to leave too soon
I was supposed to be the one
I prayed to the gods above
To let me take her place
A world without her in it
Is something I cannot face

I know she would not be proud of me
This drunkard I’ve become
But without her standing by my side
My world has come undone
That spot continues to circle
And on it I try to concentrate
So perhaps for just one minute
I can forget this life I hate



NOTE:  This poem is pure fiction.  I don't know how this found a place in my head, it was just there when I went looking for a poem.  Now, I must go find a more uplifting and happy poem to counteract this downer.
