The Hitchhiker

The person in a dilemma seems to be
You’d like to provide a ride for free
If on the road you allow him to remain
Might miss a chance an angel to entertain

With bad luck, that could easily be you
You hesitate, trying to decide what to do
Car slows and you see his hopeful eyes
From within, compassion begins to rise

Perhaps he is someone’s brother or father 
How likely is this poor man you to bother
And inside your car it is so warm and dry
“Pick him up,” in your heart you do cry

Underneath that coat may be a gun or knife
He may be a psycho who will take your life
Then your heart must be overruled by mind
You step on the gas and leave him behind
