Poem

<Ethereal music primordial
lured me down a winding path, gently
lit by the golden glow of the full moon:
followed the music till I found the source.
There sat a handsome brave sitting beneath
an ancient oak tree playing a reed flute,
with long fingers nimble and quick – master.
Rugged features and sun bronzed skin - black locks
flowed over broad shoulders falling onto
his tanned bare chest - he wore deer hide trousers 
and moccasins too; a surreal vision.
A nod of his head acknowledged my presence 
though he continued playing some sweet tune.
Owl and coyote joined in, their hoots and
howls made an odd duet yet in perfect
harmony as Nature orchestrated.
Song finished, he rose, and said Kwe’, my name 
means hello in my language and then he laughed,
Mother said Kwe’ first time she held me.>
Kwe’ explained he’s an elder, teaches the
ways of his people from their hearts – stories
and songs; spiritual rituals link 
us all – we are all connected, beasts too.
Dedicate songs played to our ancestors,
their wisdom and knowledge has been passed on
from generation to generation.
Kwe’ swept arms wide as if embracing all
Nature, “here Spirit resides, we believe.
here for reflection and observation – 
meditate on interconnectedness.”
Kwe’ picked up his flute, resumed playing tunes –
owl and coyote hooted and howled then
other forest creatures added their songs
creating a symphony of diverse
voices in unison – inter connect.
