Poem
A passer-by once told me that I’d “better heed and behold thee” “For I transcend the spirits and I’ll show it all to you!” When he said “Your spirits are gliding and they’re here be your guiding Light, just close your eyes and drift into their realm” I scoffed: “F--k you.” So I asked him for his evidence he then scorned my lack of reverence “How dare you doubt my edict boy. You live in cold, cold realm!” Stunned was I at Reason’s demise when starring into deluded eyes How afraid its enemies seemed when they’re no longer at the helm So it dawned on me The Passer, knew that logic was his disaster “It is cold and lacks the mysticism, you just need to believe!” So I faced this poor old mystic and I spoke in ways holistic That he’d realise he was just another poor old man deceived Does your world taste more sweet with angels circling your feet? Does it seem a little bolder when you ride on giants’ shoulders? Is it a cold, cold world when you are nowhere near the centre? Don’t you realise your reliance on the logic of “cold science” How the reality of its reason gives you medicine and knowledge And the phone you’re always using “Oh the science is confusing” Well when is the last time you saw spirits taught in college? Is the rainbow so much duller when you learn why it has colour? Does it seem much less poetic when it lacks the pot of gold? And the planets all evolving, oh how wonderfully revolving Without logic they’d still be mystic lights of ancient stories told What else does this universe need to make it magic to your creed? For it’s a crime to nature’s magic to glitter butterflies in bronze If your eyes were opened wider to the reasonable provider Known as science, you’d be free from those crooks and cons Our lives still keep their beauty when we recognise our duty That we take responsibility for actions which we take No more gods to be our crutch, no more spirits and ghouls and such It’s time to move in to enlightenment, reality, you’re awake Does your world still taste more sweet with angels circling your feet? Does it seem a little bolder when you ride on giants’ shoulders? Is it a cold, cold world when you are nowhere near the centre?
