Poem

A Wattle, nearly 80 Smoots high.
decided one fine spring day
that some way it was going to fly.
“It was going to fly ?”, said I
“No way, Jose, not today.”

The Wattle, not discouraged
actually looked somewhat smug.
It had me puzzled and worried.
What did he have buried,
a magic genie’s flying rug?

He pulled out his magic deck
of Pumperdinkle flavored tarot cards.
Things were definitely going shrek.
Motioning to me, what the heck.
He wanted the whole nine yards!

On the table the tarot spoke
words of wisdom in hollow tone.
Grey matter rose like wisps of smoke.
The Wattle listened with great hope.
The tarot faded, and then was gone. 

The Wattle spoke and soon was done.
His voice was weak, demeanor dire.
"Quarks and hadrons, I command none."
But setting himself on fire he won.
As his smoke rose high and ever higher.

Wattle: Australasian tree yielding long slender poles.
Smoot:  The smoot is a nonstandard unit of length created as part
              of an MIT fraternity prank.
Pumperdinkle: A crazy word which I thought up.
Shrek: A crazy word which someone else thought up.
Quark: A basic particle of matter.
Hadron: Quarks combine to form hadrons.
