Poem

Oh my God, I'm dead!
Gotta get my butt out of bed.
It's 10 o'clock. I'm 2 hours late.
My alarm clock wasn't heard
and now many a harsh word
from my boss does most certainly await.
Running frantically out of my home
I stop momentarily to put my shoes on.
It's rather dark I must say for this time of day.
Perhaps we are expecting a storm.
I should call my boss before continuing on.
That's when I notice the time on my phone.
I then realize that I'm not at all late for work.
The time reads PM not AM, and now I feel like a jerk.

I must admit in all honesty,
that I do the above quite regularly,
as well as such things I'm embarrassed to say,
like showing up for work on week ends or holiday.
Why do I do this? You tell me.
Perhaps I'm too work orientated regarding my responsibility
to all my fellow workers and how much they depend on me,
or maybe I'm just scared witless of authority
for fear that they one day may choose to fire me.
In any event, it doesn't really matter to me.
I find humor in the above. I can truly laugh at me.
