Poem
To start with I part it and sweep each side back Tucked over each ear is this guy’s hairstyle hack Brynner and Willis and Johnson are cool But I keep my hair on… I’m nobody’s fool Bald suits some people but some look plain weird Maybe that’s why many grow a big beard Their chosen shampoo is for use on their chins And that brings me to where my story begins……. My first chosen hairstyle; I must have been ten Was when I decided… no haircuts again It seemed like no time before my flaxen locks We’re looking in danger of reaching my socks But Glam Rock meant I fitted into the scene Alas, even then, people could be so mean For with my long blonde hair beginning to curl I lost count of folk saying, ‘Are you a girl?’ And then in my thirties my hairline ascended Only a little but I had depended On my golden strands to be my pride and joy At least it was obvious I was a boy In my shoes at thirty there now a man stood My crowning glory fought long as it could I trimmed half an inch off of my flowing hair I felt like a bald man was standing right there At forty, I could no more argue the truth I felt a bit chilly up their on my roof It was with regret and the firmest prompt yet That hair flowing in the wind, I must forget So, off to the barbers; a short back and sides Nondescript, that’s where my forties resides And then in my fifties… twas anything goes My hair, though delusional… nonetheless… grows And so, here I sit, with Shakespeare in my head What I have in common with writers long dead Is hair with a parting that’s ever so wide And the knowledge that hair won’t be my lasting pride But I always knew that my baldness would win That my new short hair would bring someone a grin That I would tell folk that my hairstyle was best And my four inch parting was standing the test So keep all your lotions, your serums and gels Keep your shampoos with your lavender smells My side bits are sheepish, but here is the joke The bald bit makes me just an everyday bloke
