Poem
At the end of this message to you I shall write respectfully a word that shows that you’re being polite, but really, does it matter? I’m not truly feeling contrite See respect is something earned and if I know anything, respect isn’t a gift that you hand out, at least not to those that you (love) are you getting my train of thought now? You respected my lover and said that you couldn’t speak to me out of respect to him, so then tell me why you disrespected him by talking to me every day again and again If you had respected him in any sort of way, then you wouldn’t be telling me how sexy I was and flirting like it was okay If you had respected her, the one that you’re with now that you have been with for all of these years, you wouldn’t have started a love affair with me twenty years ago leaving me to drown in my own tears You didn’t respect her if you had you could never have crossed that line, you knew what you were doing and you had no concern for her feelings then or mine The words that you used against her, the cruel things that you once said, oh if she only knew how much you supposedly hated her would you two still be together now sleeping in the same bed If she knew the things you have done, the way that you made me feel, physically and emotionally then, how you told me what we had was real If she knew that you were whispering words into my ear that she desperately wanted to hear you say, would she still be there by your side now as you play pretend that everything is okay How do you look her in the eyes? How do you kiss her lips? Do you have no conscience at all it truly makes me sick You don’t love her and a part of me believes that you never loved me because back then when you said that you did you should have left her before you came for me I see how happy you appear with her now and you tell me that you’re so content in your life, are you delusional or just lying to yourself praying that you never get caught that I will never turn on the spotlight See why should you not have to suffer for all of the turmoil that you once caused? You gutted my life and heart and told me so many lies and all the while I was your pawn I’m not innocent in this and I don’t claim to be, I made my bed metaphorically and I lie in it every night with my mistakes wrapped around me But you, I bet you sleep like a baby without a care of your indiscretions keeping you up at night, all the while holding the one in your arms that you couldn’t have cared less about years ago when you were holding me there so tight But our story didn’t end there all those twenty years ago, we spoke just a few years back and you weren’t feeling guilty as you made it seem to the one who now holds my soul See I have moved on and I am happy something that you will never truly be, you can lie to yourself all that you want but as they say cheaters they always cheat So, when my lover came calling and he asked you why you were speaking to me, you wouldn’t even reply to him that was really manly of you leave your mess to clean up to me I guess that I shouldn’t have been surprised as you did the same in the past. You filled me up with so much hope for a future that you knew would never be and prayed that I remained in your past But you did reply to me although you weren’t man enough to reply to him, you told me that we couldn’t talk anymore that you had to respect his wishes well my question is why you were even talking to me in the first place then You didn’t respect his wishes, and you certainly weren’t respecting him or me or her in any way, you were just playing your old, tired games that you always have because it has to be your way Well, I have respect for me, and I have respect for my relationship, and although you may not have any for yours, I want you to know that I am sick of this I pray that she sees the light that she discovers all of your lies, I pray that one day karma bites you so hard that the tears never stop flowing from your eyes I hope that one day when your surrounded by nothing but the memories of all that you once had but just didn’t care about, you’ll remember the girl that truly loved you once upon a time, but you filled her up with doubt And I hope that she sees you for who you really are, and that you’re left with nothing but a wasteland of reminders of love from people that you chose to just discard Respectfully yours well once upon a time, respectfully looking out for myself and knowing that it’s about time.
