Poem
Augury; a sign of what will happen in the future; an omen: Complacent the night lays above, Unsure what the darkness lies of Corners, cracks, and fields Lies only the beasts that yield Before the sunrise, yet to come Never sure, but aware of some The day passes to and fro, Still gazing at what is below “Worry not, friend or foe, For we know the place to go!” Why oh why, does it seem I feel, I know Of what is to come but only sorrow? A figure of feathers and black Rises and falls upon the back Of a statue covered in wine and rust, From then, I need know what I must The aching begins in my spine, From it’s eye to mine Sleep is not afforded, no, not once! My night only fills with stings and grunts My head spills around, as if– As if there came unstoppable stunts Of immense power through, only once Only once I knew, only once Tense and sweat, a fever broke out From the medics to the priests, shout “Hail all but fall with grace, For this is no mistake!” Rising the wretched flame Upon the innocent and tame From the wind and ashes rising the bitter end As there is something I must amend For the tree yonder, over and hill and branch Survives the actively dying, screaming ranch Beyond the flame lies there, that tree– The one, the only, only it must be– The eyes from that very night Staring down, empty of fright Cold, ominous and pleasured A grueling scene, cruelly measured The one bore seventeen years ago The Witch that only I know The wind changed; the fire climbed The grass receded; her smile refined “I asked, you told, then I find What is yours is also mine Burn what I must, but you lied– All found is only worth grime”
