So this is what the myth and legends were made of
Why the Gods painted stars and Moon to the sky
Why the wolf howls at night and birds sing by day
How lost pets find their way home

But you have never heard this before
Not seen the way a room changes with you in it
The way the light hums around you
That laughter shines out of your eyes

How fast the world spins with you in it
When hours blink by like minutes
Hearts beat quicker, hands and lips tremble
Did they not tell you how joyous you are?

Has no-one ever told you what happens when you are gone?
The space you leave behind when you are not there
Like a shadow, an imprint on my heart
A secret code that beckons me to find you

I never thought I would, or even that I could
That you may even exist - I had forgotten
A fairytale dream, pushed away by adults
Yet here you are, before me

Now I am the fool for not believing
Wondering, what else I may have missed
Pledge to miss no more, and to hold on tight
Never to let you go and to let you know it

To take you as you take me
You are mine and I am yours 
With love and laughter
Forever and after
