Written: November 15, 2024 For Glenn Hughes Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Robert James Liguori _____________________________ In the quiet of the evening, a whisper echoes through my mind, the old saying wraps around my heart, stubborn, as ivy on a weathered wall. I have been praying, for the girl who stands out as a star, a flicker in the haze of my lonesome nights. I think you have felt the weight, the soft heaviness of sad thoughts, as rain that slowly seeps into the ground. I have been waiting to touch you, With each passing hour a reminder of the warmth that lingers in your smile, a photograph etched into my soul. I remember you, wide-eyed and wild, a spirit that danced with the wind, yet I feel the shadows creeping— the worries that press against your heart. I promise, no rush, no hurried steps down paths unclear, I’m here, as a lighthouse, calling you back to the shore of safety. Stay, won’t you? Just for a moment, hold back the tides, the pull of things unknown and scary. Let’s weave our stories anew, break that gateway to where hope and fear can coexist. Let’s sit under a sky painted with stars, where our words flow as water, each drop a piece of our truths, each pause a chance to breathe. Let’s lay out our tender hearts, like a canvas eager for raw strokes, this is our chance— to build a world where sorrow softens, to craft a love that rises same as dawn. So, baby, don’t slip away, let’s hold tight to this moment, turn the shadows into light, and let’s chase the darkness together. With each heartbeat, I’m calling— won’t you please come back?
