Poem
A lot of time was spent at school. I always liked to play the fool. It was written in my school report, although the teachers would exhort. The teachers wrote their report letter, 'Mrs Wilde, your son, he must do better. His behavior, we just can't approve. Your son, he knows, he must improve'. 'Your son he likes to play the clown, He is only letting himself down. He is the joker in the pack. He needs to get himself on track'. 'Your son, he knows he must try harder. Don't be a fool and be much smarter. We need to unlock his full potential. For him, I feel this is essential'. I would scurry home, report in hand. I know that mum will understand. I hand it over with a cheeky grin. I think my mum knows what's within. The letter open, mum reads aloud, I hoping that I'll make her proud. I know full well what mum will say, 'Just be yourself, now go and play'. The talent and skill I held inside, I was taught by mum to wear with pride. She said 'One day you'll be a star, just be the person who you are'. That loveable rogue, yet with a charm, to make you laugh and not cause harm. That jovial one without guile, the one with a knack to make you smile. In hindsight, whilst I'm looking back, I was the joker in the pack. Whilst winding up the teaching staff, just hoping I would make them laugh. So here's to the lessons I learned in school, although I liked to play the fool. Now looking back with a grin so wide, my school report I wear with pride. With a lesson learned from every jest, I chased my dreams and I did my best. And whilst playing the fool was just my style, I always did it with a smile!
