Poem
I looked to the trees and first saw the crow When it called out it’s voice sounded coarse He stared for a second, but then flew away And I followed on foot because I could not fly I hurried after that small speck of black Along a tiny woodsy path But I soon had to leave the path If I wanted to stay with the crow There was just an hour til the sky turned black And I was forced to follow the course It cared not for obstacles, flew as the crow flies. And I just had to find a way By now I’d gotten far away I stood on the saddest excuse for a path But that bird continued still to fly And I still felt the draw of this crow It eventually seemed to end it’s course But with night falling it faded into the black I headed on as the sky neared black The crow getting slowly further away As it etched out its random course With little regard for the man made path I don’t know why I followed the crow Maybe I just liked to watch it fly As if by following it, I too could fly That inspiring bird all clad in black Part of me found solace in the crow I felt it’s freedom as it flew away Eyes on the sky and feet on the path Slowly plotting my own course The trees grew close, the bushes turned coarse And I had to trudge through, as I could not fly Part of me wished for an easier path As I merged into the woodsy black The sounds of cities drifted away And all I heard was the occasional screech from the crow I turned on the path, before all turned black I heard the crow fly, to go far away But I stayed on my own course, satisfied with memories of the crow
