The deserts brown, the deserts bare,
at first it seems there’s nothing there;
the deserts hard, the deserts stone,
a rare few make this place their home;
the deserts vast, the deserts bleached,
coyotes roam far for their feasts;
the deserts heat, the deserts rays,
you won’t last at the height of day;
the deserts dark, the deserts dry,
nighttime chill takes you by surprise;
the deserts calm, the deserts stark,
the silence is the hardest part;
the deserts haunt, the deserts home,
cracks in rocks lizards call their own;
the deserts life, the deserts green,
here cactus takes the place of trees;
the deserts wind, the deserts grit,
sand storms punish all who see it;
the deserts draw, the deserts weird,
what is it that draws us back here?
