Where did the time go,  
Slipping through calloused fingers,  
Lost to the ever-fickle wheels of fate,  
Like grains of sand swept up in the Sahara desert,  
Or bitter tears dissolving in the Dead Sea?  
All that is left of you is a portrait in the parlour,  
Hanging as a pale reminder of what was once a vibrant life,  
Coated in thick dust and swaying cobwebs.  
The thick night air is starting to settle in,  
Scents of stale sorrow hang heavy,  
While the hollow caw of crows floats by.  
I slump down in a battered recliner,  
For I can no longer lay in the bed that we shared.  
This is now where I retire from the day's merciless hold on me,  
For I wish to slumber, to crash into my dreams,  
Drown in the sea that is your memory,  
Tossing and turning, holding onto your scent.  
I sink further and further,  
Deeper into the nether,  
Until I come upon a sunshine-dusted clearing,  
Walk among the fields blanketed with ivory lilies,  
Looking for you, where you said we would meet again,  
Under the branches of a lush weeping willow.  
There you sit, just as the day your soul was torn from your mortal coil.  
Gentle breezes sweep me to you,  
And for just a brief second in time, worlds meld  
As I plunge into your embrace, fleetingly reunited.
