Poem
I had a girlfriend during my youth service, She was then in love but still a novice, After service, she was called to the bar, Not long after she relocated to her town, Calabar. I stayed back in Sokoto to continue my life, But, in all honesty, I wanted her to be my wife, Somehow, we lost contact, but I kept her in mind, Because I knew her to be generous and kind. But like a dream, a year ago, her calls woke me, I recognised her voice 'cos t'was uniquely meek, All she said was; she wanted me to pay her a visit, But my mind warned me it might be a deceit. I got to Calabar, the evening of the second day, After bath, I waited to hear what she had to say, I must say, she had a tastefully decorated two bedroom flat, She entered a room rather than staying with me for a chitchat. I started eating the food she had earlier on prepared, I couldn't eat much because I was already despaired, To my surprise she was in the room with another man, I then knew, against me, she had a sinister plan. The man later exchanged pleasantries with me with finesse, My babe then introduced him to me as her fiancé, She said they had planned their wedding for the end of that month, That was just two weeks away! That burnt my buns! I had to ask her why she invited me to Calabar, And she said that was her only way of paying me back, Unfortunately, I still don't know why she dealt with me with such might, They even denied me their apartment to sleep that night. I had to sleep at the motor park, That I even had enough money to go back, I thanked my stars. So, I came all the way down for a bath and a dinner, When I'm not the world's most terrible sinner? I have promised myself that i won't curse them, But my prayer is that peace will elude those two bums, And in their marriage their tears will fill an ocean, And bitterness will daily be their potion.
