Once upon a time, I played
Against myself - and there, I stayed...
Displaying a no-leaf clover.
Nowadays, the games are over.
Previously, help I sought
Through counselor full of support.
Assisting me to self-exclude,
She helped to change my attitude.

So many places I have been...
Sitting at a game machine.
Both online and at a venue...
Gambling upon the menu.
I am not certain or sure
Of why I made myself endure
Such losses from the beginning...
All the while rarely winning.

The origins of such addiction
Stem from some sort of infliction.
Embedded somewhere in my brain...
Hoping to win and win again.
Starting with a set amount
Would soon see me re-account
For money which I would withdraw...
Additional funds - more and more.

Early on, I would bet small bits...
Then, an increase in my hits.
This would see me dig a hole...
Losing financial control.
Sometimes, I would lose the lot
Of my income - slot after slot...
Without a dollar in my hand
And no more for me to demand.

My habit for all its taking
Saw my hands reduced to shaking.
Even slight anticipation
Of machines caused this sensation.
I am doing better these days
Now that I have changed my ways.
Lucky me with four-leafed clover...
Grateful that the games are over.
