Poem

There's silence in the room tonight
Just like the morgue down the street;
Sometimes I think the shadows move,
I hope there's no one here to meet.
Thought I could hear someone whisper, 
Yet I hoped it was just the breeze;
If not, I wished that they'd move on
And look for someone that believes.

Thought I saw the neighbor lady
Raking up the dead leaves outside;
Kind of strange for its near midnight
And it's been ten years since she died.
Her dog passed two years later,
Some children found him in the park;
There are a few in this small town
That will swear they still hear him bark.

And then comes a strange pale blue light
That dances across the ceiling;
I cannot tell where it comes from
But it gives me an odd feeling.
I think I've seen it change color
Before it moves to disappear;
I'd be glad if I don't see it
For at least another few years.

At last midnight has come and gone,
Soon I've drifted back into sleep;
And as my dreams begin to flow
I hope those nightmares don't repeat.
Of course, I know the sun will rise
And there will be a brand new day;
But when I close my eyes tonight,
Those illusions will have their way.
