Poem
I thought that falling in love was basic, something any fool could do; And, being smart, I knew I’d be O.K. But now I know it’s not so simple, ‘cause I missed my step with you, And I really lost my balance right away. And now I’m caught between a rock and a hard place. Caught between a kiss and a sigh. Torn between ‘No way,’ and ‘I love you,’ In that trap between ‘Hello’ and ‘Good-bye,’ Yes, I’m caught between a rock and a hard, hard place. Well, I’m not even too sure I like you, and perhaps it’s not required; Maybe a lover’s just not meant to be a friend … But I am certain that I love you. Oh, Babe, you really light my fire, And I guess it’s pretty stupid to pretend. So now I’m caught between a rock and a hard place. Caught between a kiss and a sigh. Torn between ‘No way,’ and ‘I love you,’ In that trap between ‘Hello’ and ‘Good-bye,’ Yes, I’m caught between a rock and a hard, hard place. I’ve a feeling you’re not good for me, and maybe I’m no good for you, And I think we really should have stayed apart. I feel I’m losing my identity and I suspect you feel that too, And it’s doing so much damage to our hearts. But we’re still caught between a rock and a hard place. Caught between a kiss and a sigh. Torn between ‘No way,’ and ‘I love you,’ In that trap between ‘Hello’ and ‘Good-bye,’ Yes, we’re caught between a rock and a hard, hard place. My head says ‘We must end it now,’ while my heart cries ‘Let me stay!’ How it might have been, I guess we’ll never know … But now the best thing I can do for you is just get up and walk away: If you really love me too, you’ll let me go … Because we’re caught between a rock and a hard place. Caught between a kiss and a sigh. Torn between ‘No way’ and ‘I love you’, In that trap between ‘Hello’ and ‘Goodbye’. Yes, we’re caught between a rock and a hard, hard place. This is a song lyric. Country/Rock - think DollyParton
