Poem

Clean air has now become a pipe dream. 
The bleak energy speaks loudly,
With a lot of stale and toxic air.
Like Jonah in the belly of the whale,
People stay choking, choking for fresh air!

Sapphire waters, smothered,
With an opaque membrane of oil slick.
Fish come up opening their gills wide.
They die starving for fresh air.
There is a layer of soot in the air.
People cough n’ choke, their larynx itch.
The skies let down a deluge of tears.

Songbirds no more sing
Dusty soot fills the air.
Sun- stands a flaming inferno
Day scorched in its violent fury
Spectral figures grope in dark
Despair greets us as a prologue to the day,
And ends with an epilogue of the night.  

The old world is strangled to death.
Toxic waste muddles up everywhere 
We plant demon seeds, water flowers of fire,
And reap a harvest of doom.
The world once dressed in beauty,
Now wears a mantle of pollution.

Green- not a color any more.
Swept by the winds of change,
I see and feel with a shudder,
That this is NOT the world I inherited,
Nor will it be the world I would bequeath.
Countless children coming after me,
Will they accept the bequest with gratitude?
Or will they shun it like plague?

The earth wriggles in pain,
But its silent whimper
Falls in deaf unheeding ears!
